DIY Mason Jar Centerpiece Tray

DIY Mason Jar Centerpiece Tray

Hey friends! I just LOVE Mason jars (who doesn’t?) and I’ve been chomping at the bit to make some kind of centerpiece with them for the longest time. So when Black+Decker asked me to use their new 20V  MAX Lithium Drill/Driver  for a DIY project, I jumped at the chance to use it to make this DIY Mason Jar Centerpiece Tray!

I know that’s a lot of pictures, but I couldn’t help myself- I was so thrilled on how it turned out!

The Black+Decker 20V MAX Lithium Drill/Driver is small and lightweight, but that doesn’t sacrifice it’s power! And it had plenty of it for this project!

Materials:

  • One 9″ x 9″ square of 3/4″ wood for the bottom of the tray. We didn’t have wood wide enough to make the bottom, so we used two 4 1/2″ x 9″ pieces and it worked fine.
  • Two 9″, three 8″, and two 3 3/4″ of 1″ x 1 1/2″ wood for the sides and middle of the tray.
  • Eighteen 1 1/4″ coarse thread drywall screws
  • Four Mason jars
  • Varathane Wood Stain in Ebony and Weathered Grey
  • Valspar Chalky Paint in Kid Gloves
  • Valspar Clear Sealing Wax

Tools:

  • Black+Decker 20V MAX Lithium Drill/Driver
  • 7/64″ Drill bit
  • Paint brushes
  • Cloth Rags
  • Sandpaper

Directions:

Place the 9″ x 9″ bottom piece on top of 9″ side pieces positioned at either side. Drill pilot holes for the screws with the drill bit, change to the screw bit, and screw in the drywall screws using the Black+Decker 20V MAX Lithium Drill/Driver.

Repeat the above directions using the two of the 8″ side pieces on the opposite sides.

Insert the remaining 8″ side piece and the two 3 3/4″ side pieces to form 4 squares inside the tray as shown. These fit snugly for us so we didn’t feel the need to attach them to the bottom with screws, but you can if you want to or they are not snug.

Paint on one coat of the Ebony stain while wiping off excess and allow to dry. Sand gently to re-expose some of the wood grain. Paint one coat of the Weathered Grey stain while wiping off excess and allow to dry. Mix about 1/4 cup chalk paint with a little water until it gets a thin milky consistency. Paint on while wiping off excess and allow to dry.

Insert Mason jars, add water and fill with flowers. Enjoy your new beautiful centerpiece!

I hoped you enjoyed this DIY Mason jar centerpiece tray using the Black+Decker 20V MAX Lithium Drill/Driver! Please leave any questions or comments in the comments section below!

Your idea was great. I have a wooden tray that I bought several years ago at Walmart. I’m working on growing my own herb garden. I was thinking about mounting Mason jars on a board using dryer clamps. With some modifications to your centerpiece, I could use my tray and Mason jars to create an herb garden!
