It’s been a busy and eventful year! Some of it good, some of it not so much.
One of the not-so-good things that happened this year is that I lost my father in January. He had been struggling with failing heath over his last couple of years, so it wasn’t entirely unexpected, but it was still very painful for my mom and me. His passing was bittersweet, because although we would still love to have him here with us, he was very unhappy for his last couple of years due to his failing health, so at least now he is no longer suffering and in a better place.
One of the really good things that happened this year is I finished my graduate (Master’s) degree in Computer Science. I know that this might sound strange, but I don’t plan to use the degree to get a job. When I started the graduate courses, I was unsure if I wanted to blog full time, part time, or even at all anymore. Early this year I decided that yes, I want to give full time blogging a go for at least a full year without trying to do anything else (like work on a degree). 🙂 I doubled up on my graduate courses in order to finish last fall and free up 2017 for blogging full time without any other distractions. Although I may never actually use my graduate degree, it is always nice to have it to fall back on. And at the very least, it was one of the things on my bucket list that I can scratch off. 🙂
How was 2016 for you? Do you have any exciting plans for the new year?
Now for the countdown of the top 5 most popular blog posts for 2016!
I really like how this project turned out save for one thing – the door I used was extremely heavy, which resulted in extremely heavy faux shutters. I will definitely do this project again, but when I do, I’ll use a much lighter door! 🙂
After the amazing popularity of my Fall Maple Leaves Free Crochet Pattern, I decided I would do a series of patterns of the most popular types of fall leaves. This is the second in the series (stay tuned for more! 🙂 ) and was very popular as well.
Crochet patterns were really popular this year! I made this blanket for my cousin’s baby boy. I’ve always had a thing for mixing purple, blue, and green colors together in crochet patterns (and anything else!) as it always reminds me of the ocean. 🙂
I was a bit suprised this project was popular enough to make the number 2 spot on the countdown as it is a very simple project, but I’m finding out that the simplest projects are often the best!
I really loved making and using these coasters, and obviously my readers did too! 🙂 I love the neutral colors as they will work with almost any decor style.
I’d like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read my blog! It is readers like yourself who make it possible for me to keep blogging and bringing you DIY projects, crafts, recipes, gardening tips, and farmhouse style decor!
Thanks for joining me for the the top 5 most popular blog posts for 2016 countdown! Have a safe and happy New Years and I hope 2017 is your best year yet! 🙂
