Hello and welcome to The Farmhouse Friday Link Party #39!

Hey guys! 🙂

How has your new year been so far? Mine has been challenging to say the least. It seems like January is always a challenging month for me, and this one so far has been no different. The first week of the new year was all fine and dandy – I got caught up from the holidays and started planning out the blog for the new year. I was ready to start hitting it hard this week, but the Universe has other plans for me. Have you ever heard the saying that when you make plans, <insert your deity here> laughs? Well, that’s how my week has been!

First off I got called in for jury duty. I knew I would be on call this week, but I was hoping I would not actually have to go in. I do appreciate our judicial system even if it isn’t perfect (nothing is) and I know it is my civic duty to take part, but when you’re self-employed and your contractor husband’s work is slow due to the time of year, having to serve on a jury makes it very difficult to make ends meet. Anyway, I went on in and I was selected to potentially serve on a trial that would last 26 days and span over three months. I can afford to do a trial that lasts a few days, but 26? When I’m self-employed? And my husband isn’t working much at all right now? There’s just no way. Fortunately the judge released me on a financial hardship, which it would have been because if I were to serve on that trial, we’d essentially be bringing in zero money for two months. 

After dodging that bullet, the Universe decided it wasn’t done with me just yet and I caught the flu that has been so terrible this year. Fortunately I got the sinus-cough version of it instead of the stomach-barfing version, but it still has had me down for the last three days as far as doing projects is concerned. But I’m still well enough to bang on my computer keyboard between coughing fits to get the link party up and running for this week.
