*** The giveaway has ended! A big THANK YOU to everyone who entered! ***

Hey friends! Today I’m joining 11 bloggers for our monthly Thrifty Style Team blog hop! The Thrifty Style Team is a group of thrifty-minded bloggers who love to find creative ways to decorate our homes without breaking the bank!

This month we decided to do a giveaway of fall decor goodies! Each of us 11 bloggers are running a separate giveaway, which means you have 11 chances to win!

I already had a thrifty project planned for this month. I decided to still share the project with you and then give away the end results!

One of the many things I love about fall is I can use a lot of natural elements in my decor. Unfortunately, this year has been a bad one for aphids in my area, and most of my pumpkin and gourd plants were wiped out. Our summers are long here and I don’t usually see pumpkins and gourds in stores until around the start of October. I can get faux pumpkins at craft stores, but they can be expensive and often they are not in colors that I like.

So what’s a thrifty girl supposed to do in this situation? It’s the dollar store and spray paint to the rescue!

Here are the dollar store pumpkins I made over. I don’t think the metallic finish on these are horrible; they just don’t go with my mostly neutral decor.

I used Rust-Oleum Chalked Ultra Matte Paint in Linen White, Chiffon Cream and Tidal Pond and the Chalked Protective Topcoat in Matte Clear. You can get them through my Amazon affiliate links below or buy it at Home Depot and other hardware stores.

This post contains Amazon affiliate links for your convenience to help you find the supplies needed for this project. I make a small commission if you order through my links, but it doesn’t cost you anything more! If you do purchase through my links, thank you so much for helping support this blog!

I removed the stems from the pumpkins before I started painting them. I used antiquing wax to tone down the gold on the stems. This is optional – you can paint them, wax them, or just leave them as they are.

You might notice that some of the pumpkin stems in the pictures look a little different from this. I spray painted those with a dark bronze spray paint, allowed the paint to dry, and then lightly brushed white chalk paint over the raised parts of the stems.

I spray painted the pumpkins starting with the bottoms first and then turned them over and spray painted the tops, allowing the paint to dry thoroughly between coats. It took two coats of the Tidal Pond and three coats of the other colors to get complete coverage. Spray chalk paint is a lot thinner than traditional chalk paint, so I kept the coats light to avoid runs as much as possible. When I did get a run, I sanded it out using 220 grit sandpaper once the paint was dry. Once the paint was completely dry, I sprayed one coat on each side using the Clear Matte topcoat.

I always spray paint outside in a well ventilated area. I order a lot from Amazon and reuse the Amazon Prime boxes as a base to paint on.

The pumpkins turned out really nice! It was a lot quicker and easier to spray paint them instead of painting them with a brush.

May I simply just say what a relief to discover a person that really understands
what they’re talking about on the web. You actually understand how to bring a problem to light and make it important.
A lot more people need to check this out and understand this side of
the story. I was surprised that you are not more popular given that you definitely possess the gift.
